Our chapter is searching for the very best coaches and leaders among our membership to help lead our growing professional community of coaches.

Board of Director Positions

If you are interested in being a leader, now is the time to consider joining our Board of Directors as an elected board member. Board members are elected for two-year terms (except for the Past Presidents, who may be elected to serve one year after their term). 

*President-elect constitutes our only three-year board commitment as this person holds the positions of President-elect, President, then Past President.

International Coaching Federation (ICF) is the leader in developing a definition and philosophy of coaching, as well as establishing a set of ethical standards that ICF members pledge to uphold.

Prerequisites for all Board of Director roles

       Must be a member in good standing of ICF Global

       Must be a member in good standing of ICF Charlotte Area Charter Chapter

       Must be able to attend all board meetings

       Must be practicing a form of coaching as a private practitioner, as an internal corporate coach, or as a manager/leader using coaching as a management skill or style

       Preferably holds a current ACC, PCC, or MCC certification with ICF Global or is actively working toward certification

Board of Director Role Summaries

President
The President is responsible for the oversight of the Chapter to ensure the activities of the board and members are in alignment with the vision and mission of the organization. Serves as liaison between the chapter and ICF Global and ensure ICF Global guidelines, reporting procedures and policies are made known and adhered to. The President presides over all the Board and Chapter meetings. They can sign any instruments or documents that can lawfully be executed on behalf of the Board, and is one of the "official agents" of the organization. The President (or their designee) is the chief spokesperson for the organization. 

President-Elect
The President-Elect fully supports the President in all aspects of leading the board and carrying out its initiatives. In case of the absence or disability of the President, or at their request, the President-Elect shall perform all the duties of the President. The President-Elect should be familiar with the policies and procedures of ICF, with the chapter's Bylaws, and with the duties of all other officers, directors and team chairperson.


Past President
The immediate past president takes on the role as an advisor to the president and board for one full term following his/her term as president.


Director of Membership
The Director of Membership provides direction and leadership for the chapter's membership program to maintain and increase chapter membership. The Director of Membership manages and supervises chapter membership efforts, including member recruitment, retention and engagement, as well as member recognition and scholarship programs. The Director of Membership will also be responsible for collaborating with the Director of Outreach and Partnerships to plan and host member events, including networking events.


Director of Marketing and Communications
The Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for maintaining an overall marketing and communications plan for the chapter, identifying key messages and strategies, and delivering those messages to members, the business community, and the general public. The Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for managing the publications, marketing, advertising, public relations and advocacy efforts.


Director of Events (formerly Professional Development)
The Director of Events is responsible for developing an annual education plan for the chapter. The Director of Events oversees research and booking of speakers for meetings based on topics that satisfy ICF guidelines for developing coaching competencies or other topics that the board deems to be in the interests of members. This includes but is not limited to monthly professional development programs, selecting and confirming speakers to present relevant professional content, setting up registration, selecting sites (in-person or virtual) and event logistics. The Director of Events is also responsible for special educational projects, such as aligning or sponsoring chapter or regional education conferences and leadership institutes.


Director of Outreach and Partnerships (formerly Community Outreach)
The Director of Outreach and Partnerships is responsible for developing and implementing an external relations strategy that meets the needs of the chapter and aligns with the ICF Global mission. The Director of Outreach and Partnerships connects with, presents to, and builds relationships with outside organizations, business leaders, and associations to bring greater attention to the work of the chapter and to the coaching profession. This director solicits and secures sponsors for major chapter events to educate the community about valuable resources available to enhance their work as well as to offset event costs. The Director of Outreach and Partnerships develops relationships with top industry thought leaders and engages them as speakers for chapter events, and establishes and maintains a pro bono coaching program for the chapter.


Director of Operations
The Director of Operations is responsible for general oversight of the technical and operational responsibilities of the chapter. This person leads operational change efforts and initiatives across all roles to ensure efficient operations. The key responsibilities of this role includes managing technology vendors, facilitate and manage accurate board area specific process documentation and monitor and manage the portfolio of technology solutions being utilized.  Providing training, education and recommendations on current and emerging technology is also required.

Treasurer/ Secretary
The ICF Charlotte Area Charter Chapter voted in 2023 to combine the roles of Treasurer and Secretary as of Jan. 1, 2024. The Treasurer will be responsible for collaborating with the virtual bookkeeper to plan budgets and to provide chapter financial reports for each board meeting. The Treasurer will submit an annual financial report to ICF Global and to the chapter's accountant, and will file appropriate tax forms with tax authorities. The Treasurer will have authority to sign checks for reimbursements approved by the President; this responsibility is currently delegated to the virtual bookkeeper. Secretary responsibilities include maintaining organizational records to facilitate chapter operations and to ensure compliance with ICF Global and regulatory bodies, and to keeping board meeting minutes and notes. Meetings are currently held monthly.
