Learning More About Your Client Through Assessments

The focus of this meeting is on what additional information about your client might be helpful to guide them through the development process. Part of the coaching process is focused on increasing the client's awareness about his/her own "stuff" -- attitudes, personality, behaviors, verbal and nonverbal communication, and the like, and how that increased awareness can be the catalyst for the client to choose to change. The client's active engagement in and choice of development activity is critical for the client to grow, change, and develop.

We look at different types of professionally designed assessments that tap into various aspects of the client's life and experience, to include workplace assessments that look at performance and other behaviors, self-assessments around personality, inventories that spotlight preferences and choices, EQ quizzes and tests, values sorts to determine priorities, and observational feedback from client engagement in small-group activities. The coach's thinking about and selection of assessments demonstrates his/her knowledge of client needs as well as the type of information that would be most helpful in facilitating discovery and insight for the client.

In particular, we provide an overview of assessments, their uses, situations or groups for which intended, challenges in using them, and caveats for using the information derived from them. We provide hands-on experience in examining several different assessments and provide real-life applications of when the assessment might most appropriately be used.

Experienced coaches will share their experiences with various assessments and serve as resident experts on several assessments within their repertoire.  This is educational/informational and not at all salesy. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions in small groups and to evaluate the utility of assessments for their individual coaching practices.

Dr. Louise Korver is a graduate of the Evidence Based coaching program at Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara, California and is certified in 15 of the most commonly used executive assessment tools used by major corporations for executive selection and development and team development.  Her Master's Degree is in Human & Organization Systems and her Doctorate is in Human Development, specifically developmental psychology. Prior to launching a full-time coaching practice, Louise led leadership & executive development at several multinational corporations including Ingersoll Rand, Bank of America, EMC, and AT&T.

Louise has always nurtured potential leaders and encouraged a clear direction in their careers. Her leadership philosophy is that to be a leader is an "inside-out" job that requires a lot of reflection and practice. Her coaching services are evidence-based, which means that Louise enjoys helping leaders connect the meaning of their life experiences and their purpose of life to their jobs, and she helps them become conscious of their strengths and attach significance to their developmental needs. Her role as a coach is to ask clients deep questions and hold up a mirror to help them identify and focus on improving the "important few" things that they can do to improve their presence as a leader and to help them make sure they are clear about their career trajectory. She is particularly interested in narrative identity (life history storytelling) and leadership branding, as well as increasing leaders' capacity for more senior roles.

With 25 years of experience, Christine brings a unique blend of expertise in executive coaching, assessments, Conversational Intelligence (C-IQ), Emotional Intelligence (EQ), communication strategy, and leadership development and training. She is certified in several assessments, including DISC, Values, ADVanced Insights, Emotional Intelligence and Workplace Stress.

As Chief Program Officer for Institute Success, Christine teaches and certifies other coaches in how to use assessments to better serve their clients and grow their coaching practices. Having witnessed the benefits of coaching in her own life, she's passionate about mentoring and inspiring others--especially fellow coaches.
As an executive coach, Christine has a strong track record of working with C-suite leaders and others to help them achieve their goals and reach their full potential.
Before becoming a coach, Christine held senior leadership positions for several organizations large and small in a variety of different industries, including financial services, insurance, education, utilities and consulting.
